What I learned as an Ex-Gifted Kid – Caroline Cannistra. 

Many gifted education experts have doubts about letting gifted students start college several years early. In this talk, you will hear Caroline’s experience entering a college environment at age 13. You’ll hear about her successes and failures, the way she interacts with the professional and academic world, and what she is learning now as an ex-gifted adult.

The Unique Inner Lives of Gifted Children – Linda Silverman

Gifted children develop more asynchronously than others, and often feel unable to relate to age-mates. When they are forced into a mold that doesn’t fit, they begin to experience their differences as deficits. We will explore the emotional needs and social realities of gifted children and discuss ways to nurture their full development.


GIFTED CHILDREN. What to Look For? Why You Should Know? – René Islas

René Islas, executive director for the National Association of Gifted Children, will tell us the common characteristics and special needs of gifted children. In this interview you will learn: What is a gifted child? When can children be identified as gifted? Can gifted children thrive in public school settings? Is giftedness something you are born with or can it be cultivated? Tips you can use at home to help your child reach for their personal best and what are the resources provided by NAGC?

Amy Lynne Shelton, PhD, Executive Director of the Center for Talented Youth at Johns Hopkins University, shares with families how they can empower themselves to support and advocate for their advanced learner.
