Call for Directors 2025

Categories:

We are looking for individuals with an interest in gifted education and working with an
enthusiastic group to improve the services and outcomes for gifted students in BC.
Anticipating usual turnover of directors, we are always interested in those willing and
capable to fill roles such as:

  • Member-at-large
  • Treasurer,
  • Social media coordinator,
  • Member outreach & communications, and
  • Technology coordinator.

Board members commit to an initial two-year term of service to cultivate a stable,
informed working group. We are looking for people who will complement our board’s
current membership – willing to learn together, with collaborative leadership approaches
and a passion for advocacy.

About Us

The GCABC extends support to families and educational professionals working with
gifted children through advocacy, education, and collaboration. Our website provides
basic information for those who are just beginning to learn about giftedness in BC, while
a members’ area provides additional resources and specific support to parents, and a
forum to discuss and ask questions. We hold informative webinars to spread information
about giftedness and to create opportunities for networking in the community. Our work
at the provincial level seeks to inform government of the current state of gifted
education in the province, and advocate for policies which better support gifted
students. In addition, we partner with local educators and parenting groups to achieve
mutual goals.

How We Work

Directors of this provincial organization are elected at the Annual General Meeting of the Association each Fall and serve for a minimum of two years. This is your opportunity to make a difference.

A well-functioning board assists the organization to remain vibrant when there is a combination of returning, experienced members, and new members interested in expanding their understanding and being influencers for gifted learners. Directors are expected to attend and fully participate in up to 11 regular board meetings (2-2.5 hours each) during the year. The monthly time commitment ranges from 5 to 15 hours depending on the Director’s role, as this is a working Board. Directors must be members of the GCABC and all positions are volunteer positions with no financial compensation.

How to apply

Persons interested in applying to become Board Members, please download an application form and return to president@giftedchldrenbc.org. You may also email president@giftedchildrenbc.org for more information.

Specific roles, including officer positions, will be determined by the newly elected board at the first board meeting scheduled for December 2025.
