Professionals Who Work with Gifted Children and Families in BC
Download the Latest GCABC Directory of Professionals here!
The GCABC is frequently asked by parents to suggest the name of a professional who can provide assessment services, counselling services, therapy or other supports for their gifted children and the family. Additionally, as we listen to and speak with parents, we often sense uncertainty about what services are helpful and from whom and where these services might be provided. In response to these requests, the GCABC has created two things:
- A roadmap for giftedness support in BC, defining the different types of professionals you may want or need to work with in the school and community, and a description of the type of work they do, and
- A directory of professionals who have experience working with gifted children and adults.
It is often difficult for parents to find professionals who work with the gifted, as “gifted” is not a search term used on professional directories. The professionals listed in this directory responded to a survey sent out by the GCABC and indicated that they have training and experience working with gifted clients/patients. This information has been reported by the professionals on the list, and has not been verified by the GCABC. This list is provided for information purposes only.
In order to make a choice, parents need to do their own research to determine if the professional is accepting new clients, and if they are a good match for the needs of their family.
The GCABC will continue to build this resource directory of professionals as we receive other responses. At this time, most of the professionals listed live in the Lower Mainland and Southern Vancouver Island. If you do not find a local professional or are seeking someone with a different focus in their work, please see the description of professionals for links to each of the professional associations and search their directories, or speak to someone who states that they provide services online or by telephone.
If you are a professional and would like to be included in this directory, please send an email to info@giftedchildrenbc.org. Please note, this is a volunteer organization, and we will respond to you as quickly as we can, and the database will be updated periodically.
The directory includes the following information:
- Contact information
- Professional accreditation (type of work done)
- Location(s) that services are provided
- Languages spoken
- Client groups worked with (e.g. children, adolescents, adults)
- If psycho-educational assessments are offered
- Percentage of the professional’s clients who are gifted
- Gifted-focused professional development and experience
- If services are provided via online or telephone
GCABC has put together this list based on the service providers’ own confirmations of their contact information and areas of focus for their practice. We are not accountable for the accuracy of this information and we encourage persons viewing this list to verify the contact information and areas of focus through other means, such as through the professional colleges.
