The ‘Possibilities for Learning’ differentiation tools and strategies were developed by Dr. Lannie Kanevsky. While intended primarily to support teachers to recognize and support giftedness appropriately in the school context, these resources can also provide valuable insights for parents, to understand their child’s unique gifted traits and learning preferences. By framing these in the context of educational language that makes sense to teachers, the Possibilities for Learning can prepare parents, and students themselves, to advocate for what they most need and want in their school experiences. In this workshop, Dr. Kristi Lauridsen will take participants on a tour of the Possibilities for Learning resources and demonstrate ways they can be used to open support-focused dialogue among gifted students, their parents, and their teachers.

Parents will have the opportunity to meet with others who have children in the same school district/school, sharing local information and advocacy ideas. LMGC and GCABC members will also join in these discussions.

Presenter: Dr. Kristi Lauridsen has been an educator, supporter, and advocate for gifted learners in SD42 (Maple Ridge – Pitt Meadows) for over 25 years, and since 2005 has been the District Helping Teacher for Gifted Education. She has also served as an Adjunct Professor at UBC instructing courses in high ability (2014 – present), and as a Faculty Associate at SFU focusing on inclusive classroom practice (2016-2022).
