Webinar, October 1, 7 pm: Assessment and Reporting Student Progress in BC Schools: Changes and Implications for Gifted Learners

Categories:

GCABC helps you start the school year informed by inviting you to join us October 1, 2024 for the first webinar of a series offered for the 2024-25 school year: Assessment and Reporting Student Progress in BC Schools: How has this changed and what are the implications for gifted learners?

Over the last decade, the Ministry of Education in BC has undertaken a significant change in the BC curriculum to respond to the needs of today’s learners, including how student progress is reported. The changes to delivery of curriculum as well as assessment and reporting are complex and challenging for schools and teachers to implement and even more challenging for parents to understand without informed guidance. Student learning today is more complex than ever. The curriculum continues to give students a strong foundation in reading, writing, and math. But it also teaches students how to think, communicate, solve problems, and use their knowledge in ways that both matter in school and will matter in a rapidly changing future.

This series of webinars will be of interest to all families and will particularly address how these changes support instruction and assessment to meet the needs of gifted students. The goal for the changes in reporting student progress is to give both students and parents a clear understanding of what students already know and can do and what areas are identified for their future growth.

Presenter Information

Our two presenters are educators with extensive experience in the BC school system and in working with gifted learners. She was a District Curriculum Coordinator (Gifted) for the Richmond School District. Catriona Misfeldt is the former Vice Principal of Choice School for Gifted Children; she also taught at the elementary and secondary levels and was a District Coordinator for Richmond School District.
