GCABC Volunteers

The GCABC extends support to families and professionals working with gifted children through advocacy, education, and collaboration. Our website provides basic information for those who are just beginning to learn about giftedness in BC, while a members’ area provides seasonal news and opportunity to discuss and ask questions. We organize speaker events both to offer information about giftedness and to create opportunities for networking in the community. Advocacy at the provincial and school district level seeks to effect policies which support gifted students at school. In addition, we partner with local educators and parenting groups whose aims are like ours.

Directors of this provincial organization are elected at the Annual General Meeting of the Association each Fall and serve for a minimum of two years. This is your opportunity to raise public awareness. To support parents to find and influence educators to provide appropriate programming for learners labeled as ‘gifted.’

Directors are expected to attend and fully participate in 11 regular board meetings (2-2.5 hours each) during the year. The monthly time commitment ranges from 10 to 20 hours depending on the Director’s role as this is a Working Board. Additionally the Board starts the year with a comprehensive Orientation, and from time to time the Board participates in planning and training seminars. Directors must be members of the GCABC and all positions are volunteer positions with no financial compensation.

How to Apply: Persons interested in applying to become Board Members, please download an application form or send an email to president@giftedchildrenbc.org.

Please note that specific roles, including officer positions, will be assigned by the newly elected board at the first board meeting scheduled for November 2024. GCABC receives all expressions of interest with appreciation.  The current board is tasked with making selections from applicants that will best add to the board’s skill set and moving those selected forward to the AGM as nominees.
