GCABC Volunteers

How much time do you spend on social media?  How about using a bit of that online savvy to support some neuroatypical kids?  The Gifted Children’s Association of British Columbia (GCABC) is seeking a volunteer to help manage our Facebook account.

Gifted and multi-exceptional children are some of the least understood and most difficult to support kids in the general population.  Using Facebook, we share relevant information and resources to help adults raising gifted children, news about local programs of interest, and announcements from the GCABC.

As a Social Media Manager, you would find online articles based on provided monthly themes on topics surrounding giftedness, post them to the GCABC Facebook page, and engage with the community by responding to comments and inquiries.  Through this volunteer position, you would gain experience in maintaining a social media presence, teamwork skills, and knowledge about giftedness and its current issues.

Responsibilities:

  • Under the guidance of a GCABC Board Director, find and post articles and news to our Facebook page.
  • Respond to comments and inquiries on the public Facebook page or in direct messaging from the page.
  • Report any issues or concerns that you notice through viewer engagement

Hours:  2 – 4 hours a month

Skills and qualifications:  We seek a reliable adult who has

  • Experience interacting on Facebook
  • Excellent written communication skills
  • Experience with giftedness
  • Experience using search engines to find relevant content
  • A reliable ability to follow directions, guidelines, and schedules
  • Prior experience managing a Facebook page or group is a plus.
