Advocacy at Work!

On January 4, 2024, the students and families of the Transition Program for Gifted Students (TPGS), formerly referred to as the University Transition Program (UTP), a program for highly gifted high school students received information that the program, a Provincial Education Program, would be undergoing a formal external review.  Provincial Programs are reviewed from time to time and the TPGS program had received a prior review.

Additionally, they were informed that intake for the coming 2024/25 school year would be paused until the external review had been completed. This has resulted in several press interviews and subsequent articles including the current Vancouver Sun Article of May 4, 2024 posted on the GCABC Website. GCABC has been in conversation with the three governing bodies, the University of BC, the Ministry of Education and Child Care, and the Vancouver School Board to discuss our concerns regarding the issues raised by the decision to conduct a review.
